Dear Friends of the Lost Shul Mural,
At last, the Lost Shul Mural is scheduled to make its journey from 105 Hyde Street in the Old North End of Burlington to Ohavi Zedek Synagogue at 188 North Prospect Street. You can imagine how excited we all are to be so close to having the mural emerge into the light of day!
The planned date is Wednesday, May 6th, and the process will begin at 8:00 AM and go on for 12 hours. A huge crane will lift the mural (wrapped in a very special cocoon, of course) out of the apartment building, and we estimate that this will happen between 9:00 and 11:00 AM. It will then be gently deposited onto a flatbed truck and driven with great care the .3 of a mile to the synagogue. The crane will make the same trip and then lift the mural again and place it on a custom-built landing pad to roll it into the building. We estimate that this part of the voyage will happen between 2:00 and 5:00 PM.
We invite you to stop by at any point during the day to witness some part of this historic process. As you can tell, however, you might have to hunt a bit to figure out the exact location, but it is a small geographic area from Hyde St. to Archibald St. to North Prospect St. The other challenge has to do with weather. If it is rainy or too windy or cold, the process will take place the following day, weather permitting. Otherwise, we’ll have to wait until the following Monday. If the date is changed, we’ll send out an email as soon as possible to update everyone.
The Lost Shul Mural pre-move, December, 2014.
We also want to point out that the unveiling of the mural will not take place until July. It will take some time to actually install it in its new place of honor and to remove the protective coverings keeping the plaster safe during the move. We will be having a celebration in July and will be in touch at a future date with details.
In the meantime, many thanks for your interest and support, and please do a sun dance at dawn on May 6th.
